Good morning, sunshine! Happy summer ☀️

 

I hope you are staying cozy on this rainy Sunday ☔️💛🏡

 

I had such a nice and laid back weekend. I feel like was able to fully take care of myself and my home, a perfect balance of getting things done and relaxing. I’ve really needed a weekend like this for a while!

 

Saturday I finished another 5-Day Prolon fast 💥

 

As usual, the fast served as an opportunity for me to slow down, take even better care of myself, and to free myself from linear thinking around food, exercise, productivity, and my energy state 🙌

 

Getting back to my workout Sunday morning with Tracy Anderson Method online studio, I heard something that got my attention 🛑

 

At the end of each week’s workout, Tracy gives a 10-15 minute talk with words of wisdom for the week. I was leaving the gym, barely listening but with my airpods still in my ears, when I heard her say this:

 

“A lot of fulfillment comes from being where you actually are instead of comparing it to some imagined version of where you think you should be. Reality is where your life is happening. Reality is where your body is actually changing. Reality is where your relationships are unfolding. If I can bring you closer to your reality, everything in your life, including your physical results, are going to really start blooming for you. Reality is where you are learning.

 

I feel like her words are another way of saying some of the things I say and think about often; about being present, about being with WHAT is (and not “why?”), about AAA (Acknowledgement, Awareness, and Acceptance).

 

But sometimes even a slight wording variation can hit us differently!

 

This week I want you to notice when what you’re doing, and/or how you’re doing it, Is you fighting with reality rather than participating in reality.

 

In particular, of course, apply this to your care with me.

 

My care, Network Spinal, is not here to simply be a kinder, gentler sort of mallet for you to swing and hammer away at yourself 🔨😬😂

Nor is my care with you a smarter, more sophisticated way to continue fighting with reality and your body 🛑

 

This week, on the table and in your life, notice when you’re fighting with reality 🙏

 

Also notice when you’re staying present and participating in reality ✨✨✨

 

Using your nervous system as a guide, these might occur for you as:

 

  • Noticing when you’re not breathing, and then noticing when you start again

 

  • Noticing your posture, both when you’re trying to use tips and tricks to “fix” it (the mallet) as well as when you’re just more aware of it

 

  • Becoming aware of ruminating, repetitive thoughts and arguing with someone in your head

 

  • Noticing when you’re comparing yourself to a “past” you, or a mythical future “you”

 

  • Experiencing discomfort, and staying present when experiencing awkwardness

 

I want to say a couple things about feeling awkward 😬

 

When we are Energy Poor– when the nervous system is in a disconnected, in fight-or-flight, in a past-based, stress-based state– we have very little bandwidth for self-awareness.

 

But if we are able to become aware of ourselves in our nervous system and body (which frees up energy) we often experience this in a big breath and a feeling of momentary relief.

The awareness comes as a brief interruption in the regularly scheduled program.

 

When we are high Energy Neutral and Energy Rich, we gain the capacity to be in reality for more than just a breath at a time 💥✨🌀

 

You might find an increased capacity to stay present even when things are awkward or uncertain.

 

This will come into play in your care with me! Do you ever notice me doing what seems like “different moves” with some sunshines on the table? 🙋‍♀️

 

Or do you ever notice me cue-ing someone during their adjustment in a way that seems new or different? 🙋‍♀️

 

There can be awkwardness and even annoyance that can come up when we are uncertain. When we are Energy Poor, this quickly becomes an experience of anxiousness and anxiety.

 

I want you to notice your increased ability to stay on the court, even when things seem different, and you notice that parts of you are afraid that this awkward feeling means something is wrong.

 

Or notice when things get awakward and you become fearful that this means you won’t get the benefits that you’re accustomed to getting because something new is happening 🙏

 

I’ve heard it said that some of the best things in life happen on the other side of awkwardness ☺️

 

Being able to stay on the court in these moments is evidence that you and your nervous system getting better.
