🌟 Sunshine of the Month Spotlight:
Meet Megan 🌟

Plus– what’s up with “the wiggle” (scroll down!)
We’re honored to celebrate Megan as our Sunshine of the Month!
Let’s get to know Megan more:
✨ What first brought you to New Day?
I was going on 15 years of back pain, I had just gotten done with another round of X-rays and MRIs. The doctors told me once again they couldn’t see anything beyond wear and tear.
When I asked what the next steps were, I was ghosted. I feel like I was just dumped by my doctors with no hope for the future despite their promises. Enter stage left, Dr. Katie Ray who I had met through the Skokie of Chamber and the Power
Partners Network and she asked if I would like to check it out and give it a try.
The thought of “cracking my back” always scared me from Chiropractic so after witnessing a demo, I figured I would give it a try, what did I have to lose?
✨ How did you feel before you started care here?
Every morning, I would wake up in pain to start my day. The pain was just exhausting at this point. The doctors told me to lose weight, I did that. They told me to exercise, I did that. On paper, I was super healthy, but they just couldn’t see why I
was in chronic pain.
They said it was likely Fibromyalgia but since it was a process of elimination, they didn’t know and that was the end of their conversation with me.
The best way I can describe myself prior to seeing Dr. Katie was hopeless. I had trouble playing with my small children, I couldn’t swing them around or play with them at the playground like other parents were, I really felt like I was missing out
on life.
✨ When did you notice that things began to shift:
Immediately with the first visit, it was like something was waking up and I felt the need to take deep breaths and wiggle. Yes, wiggle! (Note: scroll down for more about this)
I found myself taking a deep breath, finding that pain point and using that identification to stretch in a way that “scratched that itch”. I have sensory differences from being autistic and I am not the type of person can handle a lot of touching yet
Dr. Katie Ray makes the environment feel like a giant hug.
It is so comforting without being invasive for me, it really allows for me to focus on my body and not what the hands are doing to me. For me, I felt like the “boulder” of pain in the small of my back had started to dissipate in a small way, it felt
like that for a few days and then the pain started coming back but it was time for my next appt.
Now I have been seeing Dr. Katie 3 months, twice a week and when I have back pain, I know what I did to do it but I am able to use some of the breathing that me and my body learned from practicing it week after week.
✨ Advice for anyone considering care:
Absolutely be open minded and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. It works if you let Dr. Katie encourage your body to do what it naturally wants to do.
If you feel like wiggling, do it, if you feel like lifting your leg do it. As weird as you may feel doing it with other people in the room, you are here because you want to heal your body and moving and stretching while on the table just helped me
progress so quickly!
For someone who may be autistic like me or not be able to eliminate your focus on someone “working” on your body, this is life changing. I was so afraid to let someone work on my spine especially being so sensitive to touch but the best way
I can describe Dr. Katie as coming in light as a feather but leaving with “boulder” smashed!
Thank you, Megan, for adding so much energy to our New Day community 💗☀️🌍💛
