Why “sunshine”?

How to know when you’re Energy Poor
Hey there, all you sunshines of New Day ☀️😎☀️😎
Whether you see me in the office all the time, or you’re reading this and you’re brand new to New Day, or you’re a sunshine I haven’t seen in a while, I’m glad you’ve opened this message and are staying connected with me 💕
As many of you know, we have a “short week” this week, only Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for your care.
This Thursday morning I am going to Florida for the long-awaited concert weekend with my bestie, Robyn! 🏖️👯♀️💓
This is not the first time we have traveled to rendezvous together and see one of our favorites, Yacht Rock Revue.
(BTW If you haven’t, I strongly recommend watching the Yacht Rock documentary on HBO– super entertaining and interesting!
But this IS the first time we have traveled and met up for an entire weekend long concert and beach experience. Styx is the headlining act, and we are looking forward to loving all of it! 🎶💓🎶💓
(Plus we are hoping we don’t get rained out, because the weather forecast is terrible 😂🙏)

Yacht Rock Revue ⚓️🌊✨
This has been SUCH a busy season for New Day, and for me and Taylor (and maybe for you too!).
And in the meantime there have been SO MANY things I’ve wanted to write and share with you. It’s getting to be quite a backlog again!
There’s something that’s been on my mind for a couple weeks that I’ve wanted to address. I was thinking about last weekend when we were in Colorado for The Gate.
Why “sunshine”? 🤔🤔🤔
☀️You walk into New Day and you see the “Hello Sunshine” neon wall sign.
☀️You see me, Taylor, and some of your fellow New Day community members wearing them.
☀️And you see how I sign on and sign off of my messages to you.
☀️ Plus, all the yellow!
“Sunshine” has been an evolution.
Initially it was through my collaboration with my interior designer in creating the new New Day space that the phrase emerged for the neon wall sign ✨
From there, it became resonant for me and others ✨✨✨
“Sunshine” is about being able to focus on seeing the good, and being the good, where we show up in life. Here and elsewhere.
Here’s what “sunshine” is NOT:
- A chirpy, hyper-positive gloss, indiscriminately applied
- Forcing everyone to just “be happy” all the time
- A refusal to be present with something challenging
Donny Epstein, creator of Network Spinal, has said “At all times, you’re either adding energy to the collective field of humanity, or you’re taking it away” 💥🌀
Several of you– after seeing that quote in the email last week and in the slideshow in the adjusting room– commented about it to me.
It can be a bit. . . confronting.
The statement is not to have us make ourselves or others wrong for how we show up. But to be able to be aware of ourselves and the potential impact we have.
Because sometimes we might be so drained and Energy Poor that we need to take energy away!
After all, the sun has a different impact on the earth’s surface in the winter than it does in the spring, summer, and fall ❄️☀️🌷🌅🌽🌇🍁
The sun is always there, whatever the season, creating and limiting the possibilities in life.

Something I appreciate about the “sunshine” motif, and “hello sunshine!” as a resonant phrase for our community, is that it has been a journey for me 💓
A journey in being open and willing to experience myself in all the iterations of my “brightness.”
A journey in being willing to be seen and be visible.
And a journey in taking responsibility for how I show up. For myself and others.
I’ve heard it said that in life and situations we are either “On the court,” or “In the stands.” 😳
When we are “in the stands” we are Energy Poor and low Energy Neutral. We may be disempowered. Not wanting to be seen.
And we may also be in our heads with a lot of stories and judgements about the people around us and the ways things should be happening. Commenting and sharing our critiques with others who are also “in the stands.” Falling into our personas.
There are times, probably not all that long ago, when I probably would have felt that experiencing myself or others as a “sunshine” was corny (at best). Or that it was even self-important, grandiose (at worst).
Honestly, I wouldn’t wanted the responsibility of showing up as a “sunshine.”
Some years ago, I noticed that I liked myself the most when I was working with clients. My way of being was light, energized, and present 💥
It is built into Network Spinal as a technique that we focus on what’s good, what’s working, what’s resourced, and repatterning your nervous system around those hubs of neural activity (#gatewaysanyone?) ☀️☀️☀️
I started to notice myself more and more, and be more and more willing to bring that awareness, energy state, and way of being into the rest of my life 🌀💥☀️🌍💓
AND (this is important!) to notice and be present with myself when I am not and I am “in the stands.” I hope that this is the case for you as well! 💕
There is no failure, only feedback 💥
I would be interested in reading or hearing your experiences of this phenomenon, sunshine. Write back, or share at your next appointment!
Thank you for the energy you bring! I will see you tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday (don’t forget to get on the schedule!) 💖
