Here’s what most people miss about posture

It’s both a cause, and an EFFECT 💥
Good morning, sunshine! Did you have a nice weekend?
One of my favorite parts of this weekend was being able to host the sold-out “Experience the 12 Stages” workshop with 10 of New Day’s brightest lights.
We even capped off the experience in the side-yard, in our bare feet (!!!), doing the Stage 11 breath exercise 💚🦶🏡📶⚡️
Based on that experience, I’m happy to report that all this watering of the lawn I’ve been doing has been totally worth it 😆
What I want to talk to you about now is your posture.
Posture is one of the objective measures that I use with you at your initial visit, and at your reassessments, to gauge your progress and how Network Spinal care is helping you.
I would say that there are a lot of misconceptions, and sometimes unhelpful conditioning, that many people have about posture.
Many of you report to me at your initial visit that you have had “bad posture” for a long time. For years, and maybe even for your whole life!
Many of you tell me that your mother/father/husband/wife, in a misguided attempt to help you, would often correct your posture, telling you to stop slouching and sit up straight.
And you felt scolded!
And you feeling scolded and ashamed of your posture, somehow, didn’t help you improve it😂🙏 #notsurprisingly
Many of you have also fallen prey to some the many gizmos, gadgets, and modalities that capitalize on your sense of shame around your posture in an effort to discipline you into better posture.
Special “corrective” sports bras, devices that warn you to sit up straight at regular intervals, and forms of chiropractic and PT fall into this category, as far as I’m concerned.
The problem is, they only have you looking at your posture as a cause 😮
Because if you’re hunched over, crooked and asymmetrical, with your head sticking forward of your body and your abdomen bowing forward these are all going to cause you pain, tension, misalignments, and eventual arthritis. Right? So we need to fix it! And stat!!
But poor posture isn’t just another cause of your problems. Another thing that needs fixing and managing.
Much more importantly, your poor posture is an effect of a chronically disconnected and dysregulated nervous system 💥💥💥

We have a new activity this week! THIS ⬆️ is going to help you understand what I’m saying now even better and give you even more appreciation for the work we are doing 💥
In a dysregulated, stress-based, past-based, Energy Poor state you simultaneously hold unnecessary tension through your spinal cord, nerves, and muscles, AND, due to the state that you are in, you aren’t even aware of the extent of what’s happening 😰
Someone could point out the specifics of your “bad posture” to you, and the awareness might help you momentarily. But then your self-corrections “wear off” and you revert.
Mainstream chiropractic, PT, and those “corrective” gizmos and gadgets mentioned above are not likely transform you posture in a way that has any sustainability because they aren’t recognizing that posture is an effect of the state your nervous system is (habitually) in.
Here’s how your posture is improving through Network Spinal care with me:
- Your nervous system, nerves, muscles, and body are getting a break from their habitual ways of holding tension
- That break, on the table here and then more and more so outside New Day, is also a time when your AWARENESS of your spine, body, and posture are changed for the better.
- More awareness= more ability to change your body position whenever needed and at all times
- More awareness gives you new access to change your ergonomics, pillows, chairs, etc., if needed
There’s something else though too, and it’s something we discussed this Saturday at the Experience the 12 Stages Workshop.
Donny Epstein, creator of Network Spinal care and the 12 Stages, teaches that AAA– Awareness, Acknowledgement, and Acceptance– i.e. being fully present and aware of ourselves and the energetic at play, actually frees up energy through your nervous system and body.

We can instantly go from a state where we are stressed, disappointed, downtrodden, aching, annoyed, or whatever the case may be, to one where we instantly feel relief, awareness, a deep breath that seems to come out of nowhere, and an instant and intuitive ability to move and stretch, when we access AAA through our nervous systems ☀️✨🤩💥🌀💓
And guess what else? Along with all of that, your posture instantly changes.

⬆️⬆️A precious gift from one of our sunshines is about to be in full bloom out in the yard! ⬆️⬆️
This instantaneous change, that can happen on and off the table when the state of your nervous system changes and AAA is accessed, helps explain why it is not necessary to “undertand” the particulars of your bad or good posture 🤔
This is why it is possible for you, likely a non-expert, to automatically recognize good posture when we experience it, AND when we see it. Without any explanation.
Sometimes, through the work that we are doing together, I will want to show your recent posture pictures.
This is not for you to feel scolded, corrected, judged, and vulnerable 🚫
I want you to see yourself in your posture pictures, not through the particulars, not through what you feel ashamed of or defensive about, but instead recognize the energy state in your nervous system that is causing that posture. When you AAA it, you might notice yourself suddenly hold yourself differently right then and there 🙌
