So I started this new workout. . .

So, I started this new workout. . .

From content to CONTEXT

Good morning, beautiful New Day!

As many of you know, I am a longtime fan of working out (love that adjusting room chit-chat!) .

I LOVE going to the gym, and have gone through different phases with different types of workouts, adding in new types of workouts that I learn about to my seemingly-ever-expanding weekly repertoire.

So, for example, I might be doing running one day, interval training another day, zumba another day, Orange Theory another day, etc, etc, etc.

Starting in November, I had really begun to embrace working out 6-7 times a week rather than 4-5, and was experiencing a HUGE improvement in my overall health and vitality.

But when covid hit, it caused a major interruption to my health routines (a problem I’m sure many of you experienced as well!)

I struggled for months to find something I could do on a regular basis, whatever the weather and with no gym, that would be challenging enough for me AND not injure me.

And, thanks to one of our practice members, I found something that is making a huge impact on me!

The workout is called Tracy Anderson method.  I won’t share all the specifics here, but it involves hand weights, leg weights, and lots of kicking.  Soooo much kicking.

Anyway.  The reason I’m telling you all of this is that I had a huge “AHA moment” with this workout the other day that had me realize something important about your care.

I happened to accidentally catch several minutes of Tracy’s “Weekly Talk” that she does after our workout, something I have never really taken the time to do.

I was so amazed and impressed by what I heard!

Tracy was sharing, in essence, that the method behind the seeming madness of this workout is a big picture goal for your body, a new baseline for your body, and what that means in your life.

She shared how this workout has you think differently and show up differently in life, and how it becomes a powerful context for EVERYTHING ELSE YOU DO.  This message was so unexpectedly powerful for me!

Here you have this insanely hard, strangely monotonous and boring, long, repetitive, barebones/low-production value workout that is EXPENSIVE by the way (beyond other virtual workouts I’ve encountered).

But none of that matters because I “get it!”  There’s a big picture.

I’m not simply adding content to my life with this new routine.  It’s a new context, and that creates energy efficiency.

There is a small picture for your care at New Day.  That small picture is basically what you experience on the table when you’re getting adjusted.  Maybe also for that day and into the rest of your week.

The small picture is wonderful.  The small picture is good.  The small picture is impactful.  There are much less helpful and healthy ways to spend $74, that’s for sure.

But the big picture for Network Spinal and our New Day community is where the true value of this care lies.

Using this care as a process that unfolds over time, a context, an energizer, and an organizing principle and the ripple effect that creates is the highest vision we have for you in the care.

Sometimes it hasn’t been as easy to convey that big picture in the current circumstances, as our workshops and in-person events were a key part of creating that with you.  In addition, with less people in the adjusting room at a time there can be less opportunity for context that creates these shared meanings.

But we are moving forward in finding more ways to convey this message in the formats we have available!

It is critical, now with society re-opening and greater and greater amounts of “content” that wants to squeeze itself into our lives, to decide what we are doing and why.  And to choose powerfully!

Some of you have even had weeks or months without this care, and are now returning.  What a perfect opportunity to re-create for yourself what this care is for you and why you’re doing it!

In the meantime, please be on the lookout for our upcoming blog series that highlights these big picture benefits as we prepare to celebrate YOU at our upcoming Appreciation Day (stay tuned for date and details!)
