Crisis reminds us of what’s most important

Good evening, New Day!  We hope you enjoyed the sunshine today <3

I received some email marketing from a friend of mine yesterday, health and life coach Sheila Petersen.  She pointed out how triggering it might be to suddenly find oneself “non-essential” as a worker (and for who knows how long).

Her words on this really inspired me and had me thinking how we ARE all essential.  There are no extra people.  Everyone has gifts to share, even if their adaptations to stress over the course of their lives and what may be coming out right now might not make it seem that way.

It has been somewhat affirming to have chiropractic classified “essential” in this current crisis.  And yet, I know it’s basically based on a misunderstanding.

Because what’s considered “essential” in the dominant cultural ideology and paradigm is basically emergency, last-ditch symptom and disease treatment, pain relief, and the general ability to live another day and subsist.

So your average person may be thinking, “Sure, chiropractic is essential; if someone can’t walk because they are in so much pain then it’s an emergency and they need chiropractic.”

The care that we know this to be, the day to day, week to week intervention that, strengthens our immune systems, allows our bodies to release and rebuild, enhances our lives, and improves our ability to relate to ourselves and others is not what’s being considered essential.  Just to be brutally honest about the situation we are in as a culture.

Chiropractic isn’t “essential” in our minds because it’s SOOO special.  We don’t have a hero complex.  Chiropractic is essential because YOU are essential.  You functioning, feeling, and relating your best in this crazy world we find ourselves in.

And we are SO GRATEFUL to have our office and our care be one of the ways the essential you stays shining so brightly.

This Saturday will be the 7th anniversary of New Day!  And we have never been more grateful for you.

Whether you are continuing to come in for your adjustments during this time.  Whether you have paused due to covid related concerns.  Whether you have needed to stop your care due to financial hardship.  You light us up, and you light up this world.  We mean it.

Some of you have asked about how the office is doing and what you can be doing to help.  As always, it never fails to floor me what a generous, loving community this is.

1) Stay connected.  Just an email, text, or phone call.  We love to hear from you whether you’re scheduling with us or not. And not just to us, but to anyone you think of.  If they come to mind, it’s likely for a reason!

2)  Thank people.  Radiate love and understanding.  We don’t necessarily mean us (though some of you have been VERY generous in this– see below).  I believe there is a real shortage and a real need right now for people to express more kindness, more generosity, and less judgment.

As our practice member Dana Magnus said yesterday in her social media, wouldn’t this be a great time to prove that energy, possibility, and positivity are more contagious and have a bigger impact globally than illness and fear?  It really just depends on which you put more faith in.

Think of how triggering it might be for someone to be walking down the street and have the person passing them recoil at the sight of them?  It literally could be someone’s worst nightmare.

You have the power, with your energy, to help those who really need to feel community right now and aren’t able to access that.

Thank you so much to Hillary B for writing this beautiful review for us last week.  This brought Dr. Virginia and the team and I a lot of energy.  So many of you have taken it upon yourselves to bring energy and positivity to us at this time, and it is SO APPRECIATED.

All of your thoughtful reviews have been very much appreciated over the years.

If you’re ever wondering about (or even feeling annoyed by!) the texting system that texts and asks you to provide feedback and write a review, the reason why has everything to do with the thoughts I shared above.

People don’t know that there is something out there like this care, that helps them feel and be the best that they can be.  Most people who find out wish they had known sooner!  Your review is one way to expose more people to the idea that the “essential” them is a necessary part of the solution <3

Thank you New Day, and see you at your adjustments this week!  Or sometime soon!  Or Wednesday or Saturday (see below).
