If you stepped on a dog’s tail . . .

Happy Monday, New Day!  I hope you had a beautiful weekend ✨

Lately I’ve been thinking about how one of the things that has chiropractic work so well for so many different people is also one of the things that can sometimes make it difficult to understand.

Related to this, there’s an old saying in chiropractic that Donny Epstein (the creator of Network Spinal) likes to use when he’s teaching.

“If you stepped on a dog’s tail,” so the chiropractic saying goes.  “And the dog barks.  Is there a problem with the dog’s mouth?”

BTW I LOVE dogs and saw a really cute one at Cobblestone, up the street, the other day.  He was giving me such great eye contact, I just had to snap a picture of him🐕⬇️⬇️⬇️

When we feel an unpleasant feeling in our bodies, it’s easy to assume that “the problem” is where the pain is.

Have you ever been laying on the table having your weekly care with me and wondered, “Why is she touching THERE?” or “Why ISN’T she touching where my pain is?”  Even if we know intellectually that “it’s all connected,” it can still be disconcerting 😱

This was my experience when I was starting out as a patient in care before becoming a chiropractor. Every time my chiropractor went to my sacrum or tailbone, I would feel annoyed thinking “When will she finally go to my neck?”  I almost felt like my doctor must have forgotten all about what my problems were since the initial visit! 😂😂😂

We can feel this way even more, and even more justified in our sense that some other adjustments are needed, if the place of pain is home to an injury or a medical diagnosis.  Surely if xray, MRI, and/or a medical doctor tells us there’s degeneration, a tear, a bulging disc, etc, THE PROBLEM must be right there?  Right?! And so why wouldn’t I, the chiropractor, be focusing right there in my work with you?

What’s so amazing about chiropractic is that we have the knowledge and expertise that by assessing the health of your spine and nervous system, we can know if there are deeper issues.  What you are experiencing in your pain and/or injury may very well be the bark, and not what’s stepping on the tail ✨✨✨

When you feel your own body reconnect to and begin feeling those affected areas (the barks), both on the table and outside of New Day, it is a powerful reassertion of your body’s innate healing wisdom.  Network Spinal and chiropractic are indeed amazing, but less so than your body’s ability to tap into something deeper.  You are more than a collection of parts. The care only works because you do! ✨💖🌍

On a related topic, if you have found yourself wondering what more you can do to support yourself outside of getting adjusted at New Day, such as exercises or techniques that you can use for self-care, we have an awesome opportunity for you this weekend!

I am going to be hosting a FREE Focused Breath workshop at Welles Park for you, your friends, and anyone else who wants to join (we will be in public park, so who knows what adventures await!) 💥

Focused Breath is based on Donny Epstein’s (the creator of Network Spinal) SRI work. The work addresses your nervous system in a way that is similar to the care you receive on the table at New Day– where although we aren’t always focused on the area of pain or symptoms (but sometimes we are!) you get to feel the over all change in how your nervous system is functioning, and how that change helps you with your issues.

I’ll also mention that beyond this being a great opportunity to learn and practice these techniques, Focused Breath in Welles Park this Saturday is also a very important and special way for us to be together, experiencing the healing magic of community ✨🌍✨

Being together and having an experience IN PERSON is a big part of the New Day experience (I haven’t found a way to adjust you psychically yet!). We haven’t been able to have as many in-person events over the last year and a half, for obvious reasons, and so THIS is our big chance 💥💖☀️

The New Day community is one of the greatest, and often most unexpected, benefits of being a New Day practice member.  When you step into the office for your adjustments, or attend a workshop or event, you are accessing a tremendous amount of accumulated energy and wisdom, while simultaneously experiencing yourself as a potential leader and a contribution to others 🌍

Committing to being part of something, and allowing yourself to get to know members of our community and for them to experience you for who you are is a benefit that is an essential part of your care.

Please RSVP on Facebook, if you use Facebook, to help us get the word out about the event (we appreciate your help oh so much!) 🌍

Please bring a yoga mat or blanket if you are able to.  We hope to be IN THE GAZEBO at Welles Park.  But if someone beats us to the punch, we will just be near there.  So aim for the gazebo and then start looking for us.  I will also be posting any event updates that are needed in the discussion on the event on Facebook, so keep an eye there too in case there needs to be a location shift due to inclement weather, loud people near us in the park, etc.

I sure hope you can joint us for this experience on Saturday at 12:30PM!!

Thank you for reading, and I look forward to seeing you at your adjustments this week ☀️
