I didn’t know what to believe

I didn’t know what to believe

What’s true for you?

Good morning, New Day!  Thank you, as always, for your energy and engagement.  I can feel it ✨🌍💓

The other day, I was remembering what it was like for me when I was in my early 20s, just learning about and getting into health and natural health.

I loved how I felt when I was eating lots of vegetables and exercising a lot, and the promise these activities seemed to hold for mitigating my already seemingly ever increasing list of health and physical grievances (this was before chiropractic and Network Spinal).

The problem I seemed to have is that every time I found out about a new health thing, I would immediately start buying/doing it.

This was a problem because, well, first of all, I was living on about $1200 per month  😂

Secondly, even if budget were unlimited, what was going to be my long game?

A typical experience for me, at the time, was that I would happen upon an article in the New York Times health section about the researched benefits of Evening Primrose Oil.

“THIS is what’s been missing!” I would think.  And I would decide that I clearly needed it, and needed it asap.

But just how many vitamins and supplements can one person take and have it be feasible?

My next train of thought was that if I really made my diet as perfect as possible, I wouldn’t need as many supplements.  But when you consume 1500-2000 calories today, even that is limiting (how could I fit in everything I seem to need, I wondered?)

There are different ways of knowing

And I wasn’t just like this with food and vitamins. I used the same approach with exercise, embracing more and more things, the more new things I learned about, until there was no space left in the calendar.

What I was being prepared for in these experiences, I now understand, was a perspective shift.

As I mentioned above, all this was before chiropractic and Network Spinal for me.  I was in college and then in a PhD program.  And my main way of knowing if something was real and good was research, learning, and logic.

What I didn’t have yet was consistent access to another, very helpful way of knowing.

Experiencing, as distinguishable from mental logic, is another valid way of knowing.  And a VERY powerful one.

At that time, in my early 20s and before chiropractic, I didn’t have the tools to trust my own experiences and “intuition.”  In fact, like most people, I was probably brought up to believe that research and experts pretty much always know better than we do as individuals.

And why would I trust myself, let alone my body? Despite all the healthy habits I was piling on, I certainly didn’t relate to my body as a health machine!  More like a stress and tension machine 😂

A filter for your intuition

I remember taking a tarot-card class offered by my student union, just for fun, in my early 20s.

There was something I was having a hard time getting past, even in the spirit of “just for fun.”

“Are these cards supposed to have some sort of special, magical qualities?” I wondered (insert eye roll).

It seemed like we were supposed to “believe in” the cards and their supposed meanings in the same type of way that someone might “believe in god” (or believe in evening primrose oil, future my might have countered 😂)

One day in tarot class, the teacher mentioned something that caught my ear.

Not even directed to me specifically, she said “tarot cards are just a filter for your intuition.  That’s all.”

Even though at the time I probably didn’t think I had much intuition or that mine would be that helpful, I instantly felt something inside of me like a heavy, satisfying thump.

It was not about the cards, I suddenly realized.  It was about getting to know, and ultimately trusting, myself 💥💥💥

You have a filter that’s very special

What does this have to do with chiropractic?  Well, it’s really not about chiropractic, or Network Spinal.

It is, but it isn’t.

For me, it isn’t about Network Spinal being one of a list of many things you use because you think you’re deficient.  It’s not even about it being the “best” of that list of products and healthy habits.

The care I provide at New Day is meant to give you access to an experience of knowing and trusting your own special, one-of-al-kind, filter.

And by “filter,” I mean your spine, your nervous system, and your heart 💓💥🌍

But that’s just my filter talking 😉

I show up to New Day every day not so that you can believe in me or some special spine magic.  Ultimately, it is about experiencing and believing in yourself.  But see what’s true for you!

I look forward to seeing you and experiencing with you at your adjustments this week 💖

Speaking of filters for your intuition– this is something fun!  We’ve been really loving pulling cards from The Deck of Character (right after our adjustments when the intuition filters are working at).  Give it a try at New Day this week ✨✨✨
