Here’s a way to love and support hurting restaurant workers now
New Day, let’s shine your light!
Hello again, New Day!
This coronavirus crisis has necessitated more emails from me than usual.ย Thank you for opening and staying connected.
During this crisis I think that everyone, especially here in Chicago, is heartbroken over the plight of bars, restaurants, and most importantly their laid off waitstaff and employees.
But there hasn’t been a really organized way to support them and feel like we are making a difference.
I thought my clients and staff at New Day would feel like they are making more of an impact if we put more of a human face on this and concentrate our efforts for a short time on one business, hoping that others decide to do the same with other businesses.
We would hereby like to “adopt” the Twisted Hippo!ย Please click here to go to our GoFundMe Page ๐
This wonderful neighborhood establishment is a fun, energized, and positive place to be.ย They moved into the long vacant former “Break Room” and have turned it into a neighborhood oasis.ย They brew lovely beers and have delicious food as well.
They have described themselves and their food as, “Twisted Hippo Taproom and Eatery is proud to be a brewery located smack dab in the middle of Albany Park, Irving Park, Ravenswood Manor, and Horner Park neighborhoods in Chicago. We brew damned fine craft beer that is artful by design and twisted by nature. We proudly celebrate diversity, sustainability, and creativity in everything we do in our Chicago community and beyond.”
While Twisted Hippo remains open for takeout, and is happy to receive so much support from our neighborhood in this way, the owners and management have expressed that “it was heartbreaking to lay off our staff for the shutdown” but that they are “doing all we can to make sure they have a place to come back to when all of this is over.”
Your donation will go into a “virtual tip jar” that will be given to laid off waitstaff and employees as a token of our love and support.
We are also setting up a real life “tip jar” at New Day, where our clients and team can support as they can.
Paying the rent is most likely VERY difficult for many people right now, and the magnitude of the need is overwhelming.
We have set the goal low for now because we want this to be accessible and for you to feel empowered even toย make the smallest donation, just like you would a “tip” at the end of a meal.
As part of our “adoption” of this business, we will be encouraging our community to buy takeout from Twisted Hippo in our newsletters and social media.
You can read about them and order food here:ย https://www.twistedhippo.com/.
And we are offering no-cost chiropractic care to laid off employees during this time if they should desire it.
Help put a smile on someone’s face, and grow your heart a couple sizes through a donation to Twisted Hippo staff today.ย Let’s have our community support their community <3
I’m sure there are MANY worthy causes you can support right now (including quite possibly just trying to survive yourself!) But let’s not let that stop us from focusing and working together.
Also, I know I have been playing the birthday card A LOT lately.ย
But again, tomorrow is my birthday, and I am planning to make this the fundraiser on my and New Day’s Facebook page.ย Not that you needed to get me a gift anyway, BUT this would be a great way to give me a little birthday love too, as an added bonus ๐
