Seeing through “quiet eyes” and your mind at peace
Seeing reality
Good morning, bright ones!
I heard something yesterday that inspired me and I wanted to share it with you.
You may have heard it said before that we create our own reality and that the world we see is a “projection.”
Many different spiritual traditions and personal growth programs, some ancient and some more recent, emphasize the power of our minds to help us (and the world) or heal us (and the world) 🌀🌍💥
You might have heard, as just one example “We see the world not as it is, but as we are.”
I heard this stated in a new and very beautiful way yesterday.
“The real world shows a world seen differently, through quiet eyes and with a mind at peace. Nothing but rest is here.” (Lesson 297 from A Course in Miracles, “Forgiveness is the Only Gift I Give”).
The first reason I loved hearing this is the synesthesia it evokes.
Ever heard of synesthesia?
Synesthesia is a word that describes a fluidity you may experience in experiencing through your senses– classically when one “sense” is changed out for another.
There might be tasting something “red,” for example, or smelling something “brittle.” It might be a fun new way to use your brain and your imagination, and I recommend it! (“Bright” foods have always been my favorite 🧡🍅😊)
The thought of “quiet eyes” in experiencing the world– how does that feel?
I bet your eyes feel weirdly relaxed right now. You might even notice an emotion or two as you try to focus this way.
The opposite, the “loud eyes,” would be when we experience the world through our own constantly streaming reactions, past associations, upsets, stories, etc. It’s an exhausting way to live mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. We’ve all been there! 😂
Not coincidentally I’m sure, I happened to listen to the first 40 minutes of a podcast while I was exercising yesterday from Michael Singer, author of “The Untethered Soul.”
Since I had heard of “The Untethered Soul” being a best selling book some years ago, but not knowing any more about it than that, I guess I always assumed it was just some simplistic schlock made for the masses (speaking of rackets and stories! ha! 😂)
On the podcast Michael Singer talked about the spiritual (mental, emotional, and physical) imperative to “be open” in life. Being open means being able to walk through the world not being constantly annoyed, triggered, resentful, etc.
I really enjoyed his simple and powerful take on “being open,” and his recommendations for how to easily start addressing this in your life. Check it out here!
As far as what this has to do with the body, I’m sure Michael Singer and Donny Epstein (creator of Network Spinal care) might disagree about the particulars, but the main message is the same.
When we go through life gearing up for negative experiences, based on our unhealed “stuff” and our nervous system in a mine-field of fight-or-flight moments (or days, months, or years), it’s not a world of relaxation for you or your body 😰
Maybe you feel like this invitation to try out “quiet eyes” doesn’t apply to you because you’re happy and a positive person. BUT you are someone who goes through life with physical pain and tension.
Maybe you get that this invitation applies to you because you do find yourself getting upset and annoyed throughout the week. But you feel that physically you are “fine” and there’s no clear connection between your thoughts or way of focusing and your body.
I’m here to tell you that through the nervous system, both aspects are one in the same! 🤯
I love that Network Spinal care helps us go back into life with “quiet eyes,” even if it seems short lived at times. Even to have a moment for your brain and nervous system to get out if it’s sense of “struggle” will free you for new possibilities ✨
I hope you are having an amazing week so far!
If you are new(ish) to me and New Day and you haven’t yet been to the Intro to Care, please consider coming! It’s this Wednesday night (scroll down!) 🌍💓
