The future of masks at New Day

The future of masks at New Day

Best of mornings to you, New Day!

I’ve been getting lots of questions from practice members over the last week and a half about when it will be ok to leave your mask off when you visit our office.

It’s exciting to see the world changing and people feeling more optimistic!

And it does feel soooo good not to have a mask on.  Believe me, I understand!  I was just in Milwaukee over the weekend and was amazed and delighted to experience masking as “optional” at Walgreens, gas stations, etc.

There are many, many logical reasons why it should be ok not to wear a mask in most/many situations.

However, there are two factors that are keeping us all (including you) needing to wear masks at New Day.

First, when news of the CDC’s roundabout in guidelines first emerged a week or so ago, Healthcare settings were prominently mentioned as places where mask wearing should continue.

We of course know that our setting at New Day differs vastly from the stereotypical healthcare setting (hospitals, urgent care centers, etc).  But still, this is technically the realm in which we are categorized.

Second, and more importantly, is the vaccine issue.

We are being told that “as long as you have your vaccines” you can be maskless.  Of course there is no possible way that the government can currently enforce this.

And so it would seem to be falling on businesses, schools, etc, to enforce these mandates.

I would rather not be involved in this conversation with practice members and visitors to New Day.  Not only is it impractical, it’s also just weird and not something I feel personally am on board with, ideologically.

I strongly believe that everyone is doing what is best for them when it comes to their personal healthcare decisions, and that is as it should be.

I have always been pro-choice when it comes to people’s decisions about their bodies!

And so, as much as I would LOVE to go back to not wearing a mask at New Day, the easier and more practical thing for us right now, as a healthcare office and so that we do not have to involve ourselves in people’s vaccine history, is to continue wearing masks.

We know that, increasingly, you may not be wearing masks at the other places you go, and so you may be more likely to forget and show up for your adjustment forgetting your mask.

Our team, practice members, and New Day community will be sensitive to this, and we will kindly remind you to mask up when you forget.

Thank you for your understanding in this!  I look forward to seeing you at your adjustments this week (but don’t forget that we are closed NEXT MONDAY for Memorial Day!) (and that DR. VIRGINIA is working for me NEXT Thursday) 💖🌍
