Community Investment Day to benefit New Day community, organic farm, Common Pantry, and beyond, scheduled for September 20th in Welles Park! 💗☀️✨
Good morning New Day!!
Our Community Investment Day began as our idea to help our New Day community members access care during covid, that they would otherwise not be able to afford.
We have been doing the Investment Day for a few months, and enjoying it.
But we have also wanted to expand the impact we can make at the present time.
Twice in the last month or so, I have found myself driving up Damen in the early afternoon, past the church that houses Common Pantry, an esteemed and necessary neighborhood food pantry for those facing hunger and food insecurity.
Each time driving past, I was struck by how many people and how long the line of people was that was waiting outside for the doors to open. Both times it was sobering. It was beyond anything I have ever seen before outside the pantry.
Clearly this is not a surprise, given current circumstances, but it was certainly eye opening. I received this as the signal I needed to kick the Investment Day up a notch in the spirit of New Day!
We have created a way for us all to help with this that will be energy rich, fun, and a boost for everyone involved! Are you ready??? Mark your calendar (and pray for good weather). . .
Who: YOU (if you’re reading this, you’re in!), and even your friends and family. Me, and DR. VIRGINIA (staying for the day to help with this!)
Where: Welles Park. Exact location in the park TBD day of event. Please RSVP on Facebook, where we intend to update everyone on our coordinates!
What: Network Spinal care. We will have tables arranged in the park, and distanced appropriately.
When: Sunday, September 20th from 1-4PM
How: Show up! The care will be first come, first served, and free with cash donation (pay what you can). Donations will be used to buy healthy, locally grown food and donate to Common Pantry (we will post all about this, so you will get to see the good you have done!)
Why: For fun! To make a bigger impact! To meet new people! To light up Welles Park and our whole world with our New Day Spirit. To make someone’s day and have them feel that people care.
As an aside (stories for another time), food pantry food, normally the unwanted cans from the back of the cabinets of the more affluent, are not that healthy and enticing.
I know that Common Pantry makes every effort to have vegetables and such available, and that’s one of the things I like so much about them as an organization. But still, the fact remains that the hungry are all too often given cans of weird meat and meat substitutes, and food filled with preservatives.
The excitement I feel when I go into River Valley Farmers’ Table (a neighborhood restaurant and natural food store that sells organic and free range foods) is what I would like the neighbors we have waiting in that food line to be able to feel ✨
We are so excited for this, and hope you are too!!
Make sure to sign up on Facebook, to get the latest updates, mark your calendar for Sunday the 20th, hit the ATM for your donation, and bring a friend.
Thank you for your spirit, New Day!
