Andy is our new cat! That's right-- I'm now a cat- Andy is our new cat! That's right-- I'm now a cat-mom to two, y'all! 😃🐱🐱 Andy was a surprise. We had no immediate plans to adopt another cat. But then I saw a post in a local Facebook Group about a homeless stray cat. And I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that this mystery cat was a Ragdoll!!😱 When Josh and I had discussed, in the past, what type of other cat Jethro might hypothetically be open to having as a sibling, we had agreed that a Ragdoll could be our next cat. And so now there was a stray Ragdoll?! Clearly we needed to act! 💥 The only slight hiccup in the "adoption" process was that when we met the cat for the first time, we were told that the cat was a girl. We immediately began calling her/him (them?!) "Polly" (which he/they seemed to like!) 🐱🤣 The next day we took the cat to the vet and found out that he's a boy. Then after that he was nameless for several days as we tried to regroup 🤪 (Also good news-- he's in perfect health and most likely 2-5 years old) We started calling him Andy after the "Raggedy Andy" doll. He is still quite scrawny from his mysterious life on the streets, but under our care he is beginning to look fancier by the day Andy has been with us now for almost 2 weeks, and we are finding that he is one of the most loving, outgoing, and charming cats we've ever met! 😻 In fact, he's so easygoing that I might even be able to bring him downstairs to be an "office cat" every once in a while! Jethro isn't so enthralled by him. . . but I am happy to report that they are co-existing and we are making sure to give Jethro lots of extra love and reassurance to ease the transition. We hope that they will eventually be buddies. 👯‍♀️
Now, I understand that it sounds like I'm bagging Now, I understand that it sounds like I'm bagging on healthy eating 🤣 I'm definitely PRO healthy eating! Giving our bodies the proper nutrients to use as building blocks for regrowing and transforming us is also very important! But context is DECISIVE. And by this I mean, what kind of environment is the food you eat entering into? 🙋‍♀️ The reason I think working out is potentially so much more important in the big picture of your health is that it has the bigger likelihood of changing YOU 💥 🏋️‍♀️The YOU that the food enters into as it makes its way through your digestive tract and is metabolized by your body. 🏋️‍♀️The YOU that structures your life in such a way that exercise and movement are prioritized. 🏋️‍♀️The YOU that gains energy, confidence, and connection to and awareness of your body. 🏋️‍♀️The YOU that benefits in brain and nervous system health through focus, coordination, and hormonal health. 🏋️‍♀️And yes, even the YOU the chooses what foods you eat and when 💥 In my opinion, the person you become (physiologically, anatomically, and in life), and the relationship with yourself that you develop are going to do much more for you and the big picture of your health and life than reducing, controlling, and rearranging the contents of your diet.💗 And this transformational result can be the case even for people who start out exercising thinking of it merely as a way to burn off the food they just ate #truestory I've got some more to say on this topic next week--until then, don't forget to get your December dates (and January!) on the books! We're less than a month away from 2025 😱 so lot We're less than a month away from 2025 😱 so lots of folks start talking about New Year's Resolutions. Let me just say right off the bat, my purpose in writing to you today is not advocate for any specific forms of exercise or diets. Have you ever heard it said that for losing weight, "diet is more important than exercise"? It DRIVES ME CRAZY when I hear people say this and then see people utilizing this advice in their lives 🙃😱🙏 First of all, there's the "for losing weight" part of it. For most people who are talking about diet being more important than exercise, weight loss is the implied outcome. For today, I'll mostly leave "for losing weight" aside. I think that this is ultimately too narrow a focus and that's why with that focus results can be short-lived 🛑 The part of this sentiment that I think is the most problematic, is this mechanistic, reductionistic, small-picture "calories in, calories out" model for making changes in your health. You know-- the one where you (and your ego!) exert massive control over the amounts and types of food that you consume as a linear pathway to (supposed) guaranteed success (in the short-term) 😰 All of this while leaving your life, your personality, and your energy state and physiology basically untouched. In other words, you change the content, but the CONTEXT doesn't get to change much at all 😭😭 The care itself prepares you for this, and your movements on the table and after your adjustments also help usher this shift in too! 💥 A distinction that I want to make is that there is a difference between "moving away" and "moving toward." We know that this is the case in life! AND, as it turns out, this relates to your urges to move on the table and after your adjustments This has to do with the places, the exact little square millimeters, where I do the adjustments along your spine.🐛 And as we go along in care, you might start to notice more and more happening at those special little spots where I am touching you!
